Letha Sgritta McDowell is an attorney with Hook Law Center who works primarily with the firm’s North Carolina clients. Her practice includes the areas of elder law, special needs planning, estate and trust administration, estate planning, asset protection planning, long-term care planning, and tax law. Ms. McDowell is a 2001 graduate of Purdue University and a 2004 graduate of the University of Maine’s School of Law.
Ms. McDowell is an Elder Law Attorney certified by the National Elder Law Foundation and Board Certified as a specialist in Elder Law by the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization. Ms. McDowell is licensed to practice law in both Virginia and North Carolina, and she actively practices in both states. In addition, Ms. McDowell is accredited to prepare and prosecute claims with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Ms. McDowell is a member of the Board of Directors for the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, co-chair of NAELA’s Programs & Publications Committee, and serves on NAELA’s public policy and finance committees. She is currently the Vice-Chair of the Elder Law Specialization Committee for the North Carolina State Bar, and serves as an active mentor to a number of young attorneys through the North Carolina Chapter of NAELA. In addition to her current roles, Ms. McDowell is the former Editor-in-Chief of “Gray Matters”, the newsletter for the Elder Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association.
