About Scott Hilton

Scott Hilton is a registered patent attorney and a partner at Kunzler Law Group, PC. Scott and the rest of the Kunzler Law Group Team help large tech companies manage and expand their IP portfolios and help small startups get their IP off the ground. Scott joined Kunzler Law Group in February of 2006 after studying electrical and computer engineering at Brigham Young University. He attended law school at the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah. Prior to joining the firm, Scott performed patent and prior art research and analysis on the 3GPP wireless standard for a coalition of the world's largest wireless companies. Scott researched and categorized thousands of documents in the wireless field and helped design and populate a category tree for the wireless industry in which the documents and patents were accessible using a custom, online, wireless prior art database. Scott worked with and trained attorneys and engineers around the world in intellectual property and technical matters in the wireless field. Scott later worked in-house for Fujifilm Microdisks, where he drafted core patent applications and screened patents in the storage industry in preparation for a new product release. During law school, local patent attorneys selected Scott as the Best Oralist in the Giles Sutherland Rich Intellectual Property Moot Court competition between law schools. Scott’s paper entitled “Free and Open Source Software: How Free are the Nonliteral Elements?” was selected as a winner in the Nathan Burkan Memorial Competition on copyright law. Scott finished his final year of law school at the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University, where he researched the subject of Internet regulation with regard to the Internet Community Ports Act and worked to introduce a CyberSafety Constituency within ICANN, the Internet governing body.
